Woody Ward Recreation Center: Ward 7 Renovation

Project Overview

Woody Ward Recreation Center, formerly known as Benning Park Recreation Center, is a longstanding Ward 7 recreation facility in Washington, DC, that needed a comprehensive renovation to meet current accessibility and building standards. The solution was an $11 million renovation delivered for the DC Department of General Services (DGS), encompassing ADA accessibility upgrades, mechanical improvements, and building envelope work, along with repairs to the facility's core recreational amenities. The project design was developed by Moody Nolan, with Chiaramonte Construction Company serving as the general contractor.

Our Role & Scope of Work

CCC served as the general contractor on the Woody Ward Recreation Center renovation, managing construction and self-performing a substantial portion of the work. Work included ADA accessibility upgrades, such as a new elevator and updated doors, along with the installation of two new HVAC systems, new roofing, and new windows. CCC also completed pool repairs, installed a new boxing ring, and replaced the gym floor, restoring the recreation center's core amenities for the Ward 7 community.

Community Impact

Recreation centers like Woody Ward serve as everyday gathering spaces for DC residents. This renovation brought the facility up to current accessibility standards while restoring key amenities, including the pool, gym, and boxing area. For Ward 7 families, this project means their neighborhood recreation center can continue serving the community it was built for, without compromise.
